The feed format capability is whatever you code for on the Roku side - it's not a Roku API. I'm not familiar enough with RSS XML to tell you whether it has sufficient nodes/attributes (or can be extended) to cover for example a film feed which would need to specify bitrate, whether HD etc, but as I say, the videoplayer example is an example of coding for reading XML feeds.
Comment on An indie filmmaker's experience in creating a Roku channel from scratch

So I guess the answer is no, its not a standard RSS XML feed and will require development to automate it. I'm guessing the catagory feed in your article looks straight forward but it seems there are individual xml files for each content item as well.

If the development of the feed were portable to other platforms that would be ideal. xml for my audio show feed
http://feeds.feedburner.com/HandyguysPodcast
is usable by itunes, a multitude of different feed readers, etc. I want the same functionality for video.

I wonder how hard it would be to code the roku to consume standard rss. hmmm.

Comment on SIGNED POSTER OF "DAY OF THE WOLVES" TO BE AUCTIONED

Yep, make us an offer...
Comment on An indie filmmaker's experience in creating a Roku channel from scratch

PM sent
Comment on An indie filmmaker's experience in creating a Roku channel from scratch

In the demo app it's obviously hard coded but not for our production app, since we wanted to get the whole thing automated (i.e. set permissions on added films, metadata, etc.). If you're producing a lot of content such as weekly shows, then setting up a small mysql table to feed it is clearly the way to go, and not especially difficult to do. Planning to do this via your CMS or blog platform is a smart move, even if you don't have a lot of content now (although it sounds like you do) and will save you work down the line.

Comment on An indie filmmaker's experience in creating a Roku channel from scratch

i was planning on going down the same road as you. Thanks for the writeup.

Question about the XML feed. Is it an RSS feed or is it hand coded? What i'm getting at, I would ideally like to automate the feed creation, similar to the way podcasts work today. If I have a weekly show i would prefer not to hand code updates to the RSS but instead have them generate by a cms or blog platform. Thoughts?

Comment on An indie filmmaker's experience in creating a Roku channel from scratch

would you contact me about making a channel for us?

Comment on An indie filmmaker's experience in creating a Roku channel from scratch

A must read for anyone starting to create a channel on the ROKU DVP (Digital Video Player).
This will save you a lot of time and hassle.

Comment on SIGNED POSTER OF "DAY OF THE WOLVES" TO BE AUCTIONED

Do u still sell it?

Comment on SIGNED POSTER OF "DAY OF THE WOLVES" TO BE AUCTIONED

Hi guys

I really don't know what you might think of this little note that comes from a French guy who loves American cinema and unknown or forgotten films.
I saw day of the wolves on a dvd I bought on ebay (thanks to Michael Weldon and the Encyclopêdia of Psychotronic movies). The transfer is poor but the film is very fine, I experienced lot of fun watching it, though you can clearly notice that it was a little budget movie, it demonstrates that style makes the difference and scenario remains the most important. Actors were well directed in my opinion. Number one is awesome and the twisted ending is effective. This movie deserves definitely more than what it had in its time.
I saw Tarantino's reservoir dogs before, appreciated it and noticed he borrowed from Wolves the "background idea". He's surely a great admirer.
I think that there should be a remake of this movie by Tarantino or some talented director.
I can only hope that a DVD of your documentary will be available soon and that you will achieve your goals.

All my best
